Portuguese colonists in Brazil first started exporting the nuts in the 1550s. The original tree can grow as high as 14 metres, but the dwarf cashew at 6 metres is a better commercial proposition, maturing earlier and producing higher yields.The nuts themselves grow at the bottom of an edible ‘cashew-apple’, which is eaten across Brazil and the Caribbean. The cashew-apple does not transport well, so it is mainly eaten where it is grown. Cashews make a great replacement for proteins, and their delicious flavour makes them a satisfying snack. Without a doubt, cashews are a versatile and healthy food.
Recommendations for storage
After opening, cashews must be stored in a airtight sealed container. Exposure to air will adversely affect the crispiness & freshness of the cashews.
They need to be refrigerated for longer shelf life.
Cashews must not be exposed to strong odors.
Shelf Life
You can easily store the cashew in refrigerator for atleast 9-12 months. However under warm and humid conditions, their shelf life becomes relatively very less.
